Introduction

Cardiff University is one of the UK's most innovative, ambitious and successful universities. Cardiff was ranked seventh in the most recent government assessment of research out of 106 British universities, reflecting Cardiff's reputation for cutting-edge development and research. This creates a stimulating environment for study, ensuring that students have access to the latest thinking and technology.

Whilst dating from 1883, Cardiff University is focused on the 21st century and has modern state-of-the art facilities. The University attracts students from more than 100 countries and substantial research funding from the research councils, public bodies, industry and commerce and other sources. The University's Cathays Park campus is located in and around the impressive Portland stone buildings, parks and tree lined avenues that form Cardiff's magnificent Civic Centre. The majority of academic schools are located here and it has the advantage of being only a few minutes' walk from the city centre.

The academic schools offering healthcare courses (excluding optometry and pharmacy) are based at the Heath Park campus. The site is also home to the University Hospital of Wales and provides an ideal environment for teaching healthcare professionals in a modern clinical setting.

Cardiff is Europe's youngest capital and boasts an extensive range of cultural and sporting amenities. The city is independently recognised as one of the most affordable of the old university cities and is widely regarded as one of the safest cities in the UK.

With an international reputation for research and teaching, affordable living and high quality facilities, Cardiff University is an ideal choice for international students.
