Introduction
The University of Wales Lampeter was established in 1822 and is the oldest degree-awarding institution in England and Wales apart from Oxford and Cambridge. It is a specialist liberal arts university teaching humanities and social science subjects within a safe, friendly, community located in a county with the lowest crime rate in the UK. The campus is in the town centre close to shops and amenities. The compact nature of the campus and the town means that going from one lecture to the next or heading back home at night does not inolve a long cross-city trek. Lampeter is in the middle of beautiful idyllic Welsh countryside and close to Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire and the Brecon Beacons National Parks which can be explored whenever you wish: it's always just outside the door. There is a lively student social life, with lots of events organized by the Students Union. Approximately 14% of students who attend the university are from overseas. And as one French student remarked: "Don't forget to mention that Lampeter is the most welcoming university I have ever had the pleasure to experience."
