Ambassadors for Wales
A search is being launched throughout the world, by the Wales International Consortium, to find current and alumni international students who are willing to be Ambassadors for Wales.
There are currently over 6,500 international students, from over 108 countries outside the European Union, studying in Wales at one of the 12 Higher Education Institutions within the Wales International Consortium (WIC). This represents a vast array of different academic, cultural and social experiences of higher education in Wales which WIC seeks to document and promote. It is also trying to seek out any of the more challenging experiences of education in Wales so that in future each international student can maximize the positive impact of their educational experience for both themselves and the countries to which they return. In order to gather this information the WIC office is launching two student surveys on its website in October and is working closely with student support officers, academic departments, international offices and alumni officers in the higher education sector in Wales to find international students and graduates to talk about their experiences of studying in Wales. The Consortium will then invite students and alumni to represent Welsh higher education in promotional materials, publications, interviews with media and at high profile events.
Virginia West, the Director of Wales International Consortium said, “ Alumni from higher education institutions in Wales are our greatest champions. Our former students have gone into business, education, the arts, sport and politics in most countries of the world. Some have achieved international prestige, such as President Kabbah of the Republic of Sierra Leone who studied at University of Wales Aberystwyth and His Excellency Dr Mohamed Latheef, UN Ambassador, Republic of Maldives. We also know that many alumni recommend new students to study in Wales, advise friends to visit on holiday, invest in business with Welsh partners and generally promote our economy. Now we would like to know more about these Ambassadors for Wales and re-establish our links with them.”
