The University of Glamorgan’s School of Law, Accounting and Finance was delighted recently to welcome the Hon Balikuddembe Joseph Mutebi, MP to our Postgraduate Centre in Treforest, to give an informative and inspiring talk on the formation of the East African Community, and its social, economic and legal impact.
Having practised as an advocate in constitutional and commercial law, the Hon. Joseph Mutebi was elected to the Ugandan Parliament in 2005. He is a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and has served in the 7th, 8th and current 9th Parliament of the Republic of Uganda as the MP for Busiro South.
The Hon. Mr. Mutebi outlined the aspirations of the East African Community towards monetary and customs union, to facilitate cross-border trade between Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda. In particular, he identified the vital role that lawyers can play in achieving this:“In order to achieve our vision of free movement of people, goods and services, we will need to adapt our domestic law. Commercial lawyers, international trade lawyers and constitutional lawyers will all play an essential part. The skills offered by the postgraduate courses at the University of Glamorgan’s Law School will be highly prized.”
Glamorgan has a vibrant, growing community of East African students on it’s LLM in International Commercial Law, with further opportunities for professional study available on our CPE (Graduate Diploma in Law) and Legal Practice Course.
The School was rated “best in Wales” in the 2010 National Student Survey, with an overall student satisfaction rating of 92%. All of Glamorgan’s law courses are employability-focussed, with a work placement scheme specifically designed for postgraduate law students. Our graduates are highly employable with 99% of students progressing to employment or further study within 6 months of graduation*.
All courses are offered on both a full-time and part-time basis, offering flexible study, state-of-the-art resources, and practice-based workshops delivered by experienced solicitors.
