Christopher Agyapong Siaw, a Commonwealth Scholarship student from Ghana who is undertaking the MSc Marketing at Glamorgan Business School, has won the prestigious Professor Malcolm McDonald Student Essay Prize.
This is a national competition, but its sponsorship by Professor McDonald means that it has worldwide reach. Professor McDonald will present the prize to Christopher at the Academy of Marketing conference dinner on July 7th in Liverpool.
Christopher’s success is particularly impressive given that English is not his first language. Dr Heather Skinner, one of Christopher’s tutors, commented: “This is indeed an excellent achievement for Christopher, as the competition was open to all undergraduates and postgraduates studying marketing in a Higher Education Institution Business School.”
Christopher’s winning entry was for an essay entitled: “Real value is defined by the customer, not the supplier.” He has said that he built on the understanding developed during his course to develop his essay.
“We were discussing these issues during my classes, and so I decided to enter when I saw the competition and the essay title promoted on Glamlife, the student portal. I am extremely happy to have won this prize.”
Monica Gibson-Sweet, Dean of the University’s Faculty of Business & Society is absolutely delighted with Christopher’s success, and said: “We must be doing something right at Glamorgan Business School if Christopher’s essay has impressed the Academy of Marketing judges as well as Prof McDonald who selected the overall winner. As Dean of Faculty and Chair of the Academy of Marketing’s Education Committee, I am doubly proud of Christopher’s achievement.”
