Commonwealth Scholars enjoy studying at Glamorgan Glamorgan Scholars: Rashida Nabulime and Alex King

Successful Commonwealth Scholar Alex King has been enjoying his time studying the MSc in International Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Last year, Glamorgan Business School was awarded two scholarships for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme, this scheme is a joint initiative between the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and UK universities, to jointly support scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the United Kingdom.

Alex (27) from Ghana arrived at Glamorgan last September, he says “The course is intense, but I have really enjoyed it, the lecturers have all been fantastic and have made me feel very welcome. Although I have missed home, living in Wales has been fascinating and I plan to travel and see more of the UK before I return home to Ghana. In fact the only real problem I’ve had is the weather! It’s been difficult to acclimatise, I’m used to the hot the weather of Ghana not the rain of Wales!”

Alex is ambitious and has spent most of his time studying, as he recognises a postgraduate qualification will help his career and increase his attractiveness to employers when he returns to Ghana. Employability is at the heart of Glamorgan Business School’s ethos and each course is designed to ensure that all students are ready to gain employment as soon as they graduate.  Rashida Nabulime, 22, the other successful Commonwealth Scholar is also thinking ahead, she will soon return to Uganda and plans to become a consultant, she said:

“I would like to give back the same element of kindness I have received, my ideal job would be working for a charity or a Non Governmental Organisation.”
Monica Gibson-Sweet, Dean of Glamorgan Business School said:

“We are proud to host the prestigious Commonwealth Shared Scheme Scholars, having spoken to the lecturers who have been working with Alex and Rashida I know that they have been a pleasure to teach, and of course we wish them well in all of their future endeavours.”
