International Guest Visits Swansea for Collaboration Inspiration
Swansea Metropolitan University has played host to a prominent international visitor who has created links between Welsh higher education institutions and their counterparts in Hong Kong and China.
Dr Gloria Chan has over twenty years of experience in academic teaching and professional training and is a Programme Advisor for University of Wales courses in the Far East. She has successfully established collaborations between the University of Wales and more than ten well-known universities in Hong Kong and mainland China.
Swansea Met offers University of Wales degrees and is part of the University of Wales Alliance, which aims to enrich and enhance Higher Education in Wales.
This was Dr Chan’s only visit to a Welsh higher education institution during her stay in Wales and it offered her an opportunity to strengthen links and identify areas of future collaboration with Hong Kong and China. While at Swansea Met, she was introduced to members of the
University’s International Centre as well as undertaking guided tours of the Faculty of Applied Design and Engineering, the Faculty of Business and Management, the Faculty of Art and Design and the Faculty of Humanities.
Dr Chan has worked with members of the University for nearly a decade on collaborative developments in Hong Kong and mainland China.
Swansea Met Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Warner, said: “Dr Chan is a highly respected educationalist with whom I have personally worked in Hong Kong. This visit will no doubt create a significant number of new links. She was highly delighted to meet the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress during her stay and she thinks that Swansea is a superb venue for Chinese students.”
