Motorsport Students to Hit Top Gear at Autosport International        Motorsport students at Swansea Met

Motorsport students from Swansea Metropolitan University, one of the UK's leading educators for the motorsport industry, acted as ambassadors for the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) at this year's Autosport International event.

Held in Birmingham's NEC in January, Autosport International is the world's premier motorsport exhibition. Big names at this year's event included legendary F1 commentator Murray Walker, Fifth Gear Presenters Jason Plato and Tiff Needell and former F1 driver and BBC commentator, Martin Brundle.

Last year, Swansea Met students were invited to attend the Autosport event on behalf of the MIA to offer help and advice to individuals who wish to pursue a career in motorsport. The MIA is the world's leading trade association for the motorsport, performance engineering, services and tuning sectors. The students' performance as ambassadors was praised by the MIA and, as a result, they were asked to represent the association again this year.

Undergraduate courses offered at Swansea Met include motorsport engineering and design, motorsport technology and motorsport management, and the University is a Motorsport Academy approved educator.

Since launching the world's first motorsport engineering degree in 1998, Swansea Met has produced many students who have forged careers with some of the top motorsport and performance engineering companies in the world. These include F1 teams and MotoGP teams as well as Prodrive, Mitsubishi Ralliart, Ford Rally, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Bridgestone to name but a few.

In recent years, Swansea Met has been praised by the sport's government body, the FIA, and leading industry figures for the quality of courses and students produced.

The University is also home to one of the world's best student motorsport teams as Swansea Metropolitan University's Formula Student team are currently top twelve in the world rankings following the 2010 Formula Student competition, the planet's biggest student motorsport contest.
