Bangor University shows its multinational face
Students from all over the world join local students to feature in Bangor University’s 2011 prospectus, and the Welsh language version, both published this month.
The prospectus, which is one of the University’s key publications, will be used
at Higher Education Fairs and events both in the UK and abroad. It includes all the latest information about studying at Bangor and current and prospective students can find details of degree courses, accommodation, student support, sport facilities, student life and the surrounding area.
Students from across the UK and from several other countries – including Spain, Poland, India, China and Iran – took part in the photo shoot. One of the students is Ocean Sciences postgraduate student Marcel Clusa Ferrand, 25, from Barcelona, who chose Bangor after attending an international conference. He said: “If I had to convince any prospective students, I would say that coming to Bangor is more than just going to University - I felt part of a community, of both students and professors. Months pass you by so fast because you’re having great fun that you start wishing that you could stop the time and stay here forever. Definitely, an unforgettable experience!”
Postgraduate Marketing student Vaibhav Dewan, from India, is also featured in the new prospectus. He said: “Being photographed for the prospectus was a lovely experience, I am very pleased that I was chosen to feature in the University’s promotional material.”
Vaibhav, 22, who studies within the Business School, has certainly made the most of his time in Bangor. He hosts a Sunday night show called ‘Indian Masala Hitz’ on Storm FM and is the President of the Bangor Indian Society. He also plays an active part in Global café, a group that organises events for international students every week. He added: “Bangor is a student city so it’s young and happening – I’ve had so many new experiences.”
Geography student Miriam Parry from Ruthin, Denbighshire, was shocked that her photo was included on the cover of the Welsh prospectus.
Miriam, a former pupil of Ysgol Bryn Hyfryd, said: “It was quite a shock that I was one of the people chosen to feature on the cover. I’ve never done anything like this before but I really enjoyed the photo shoot, it was a completely new experience for me. I haven’t told anyone that I took part in the photo shoot so no one will be expecting to see me on the prospectus cover!”
