
Universities in Wales have announced further increases in scholarship and bursary provision for international students offering some of the best scholarships in the UK.
The expansion of schemes such as Bangor University’s Anniversary Research Scholarships which aims to attract the best international students to Wales emphasises the commitment to expanding research capacity and international standing in higher education in Wales.
Scholarships and bursaries of between £1,500 and £5,000 are available for Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research courses at Aberystwyth University, Bangor University, Cardiff University, Glyndwr University, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Swansea University,
University of Glamorgan, University of Wales Trinity Saint David and
University of Wales Newport in a range of courses including Business, Law, Creative Industries, Computer Science, Engineering, International Politics, Psychology, Environment and Journalism.
Alongside a large range of scholarships Cardiff University are offering international foundation programme scholarships of £1,000 to international students from Vietnam and Kazakhstan
University of Glamorgan offers the largest range of scholarships in Wales including offering students from Bangladesh, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mexico, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, Zambia, Zimbabwe awards of £2,500 as part of its Undergraduate International Development Scholarships.
This year has seen an increase in American Fulbright Scholars attending a diverse array of Welsh universities including UWIC, Cardiff University and Aberystwyth University. More Welsh students are also studying in the US with a Fulbright Award.
This year’s Awards programme includes a further 28 new scholarships and 3 new Special programmes for US and UK students – more than £355,000 in additional funding.
Rafik Eshun received a Commonwealth Scholarship to studying at Glamorgan Business School. Rafik, 24, said, “Coming from Ghana my first impression on arriving in Wales is that it is a beautiful country, very green. The campus is beautiful too and the people are very friendly.”
Rafik is studying an MSc in Forensic Audit and Accounting and on returning home to Ghana, he knows he will be more employable having graduated from a UK university with a Masters degree.
