Wales Higher Education Wins in the National Student Satisfaction Survey!

 

For a second year running Wales has gained excellent results in the student satisfaction survey with almost half of Welsh Higher Education Institutions scoring above average in the survey. In addition almost half of the institutions improved their score against last year’s results reflecting a commitment by Wales Higher Education to focus on the needs of its’ students.

 Professor Les Ebdon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire and chair of Universities UK’s Student Experience Policy Committee, said: “We’re pleased the National Student Survey reveals that, for the second successive year, students are overwhelmingly satisfied with the quality of higher education investment (in the UK). “The positive feedback from students on the provision of resources at their respective institutions reflects the increased investment HEIs are making to improve the student experience, and ensure students get the most out of their higher education investment.”

 University of Wales Swansea, University of Wales Bangor, University of Wales Lampeter and Cardiff University all scored highly in the survey in which over 157,000 students in their final year responded, answering 22 questions covering six main areas of learning and teaching. University of Glamorgan and Swansea Institute of Higher Education also significantly improved their rating for student satisfaction.

 University of Wales Aberystwyth achieved the best result for Wales in the 2006 Student Satisfaction Survey with 90% satisfaction and a placing of 5th overall in the UK.  

Wales has been getting exceptional scores in recent student surveys. In a survey on Best Environment for Study, University of Wales Bangor and Cardiff University were voted amongst the best places to study in the UK. This years Times Higher Education Supplement award for the Best Student Experience in the UK was awarded to University of Wales Swansea.  

Donal O’Connor, Head of the International Office at University of Wales Swansea and WIC Board member said, “With over thirty centres of Excellence, 13 departments rated 5* and 41 rated 5 in the RAE assessments, and 66 departments listed as Excellent in the TQA awards, Wales can offer world class teaching and research. Beyond that Wales can offer a superb environment, cultural uniqueness and an enviable lifestyle which is clearly why it consistently scores so highly in student surveys.”
