First Minister for Wales Launches Programme in China

The First Minister for Wales , Rhodri Morgan, will travel to China this week as part of a delegation promoting trade and education links between Wales and China .

 

Rhodri Morgan will meet senior government officials in China and will launch an international foundation programme at Beijing 80 Middle School, promoted by the Wales International Consortium.

 

The Wales International Consortium represents all higher education in Wales and is committed to attracting bright Chinese students to study in Wales . The one year foundation programme has been recognised for quality by every higher education institution in Wales and will provide successful Chinese students with guaranteed progression into Wales higher education.

 

The Director of the Wales International Consortium, Virginia West said “This is great for Wales . Every year successful Chinese graduates go into successful careers, promoting Wales through international business, trade and industry. We’re delighted the First Minister will be able to meet potential students and personally welcome them to Wales ”.

 

The prestigious launch of the programme will take place at the Beijing 80 Middle School, which is one of the top schools in Beijing . The First Minister for Wales will meet officials from the Chinese Ministry of Education, the Principal and staff at the school and the Directors of ELI Education, a Sino-British company responsible for investment in the development of the programme.

 

James Wang, a Director at ELI Education, said “ Wales higher education is an ideal destination for Chinese students. They are able to benefit from affordable, quality education in Wales and enjoy the safe, friendly environment. We’re very proud to work with the Wales International Consortium and support the foundation programme”.
