Education Courses Launched in China
September 2004
This
week the Wales International Consortium will launch three educational courses
in cities throughout China . The one year-courses, based in Beijing , Tianjin
and Guangzhou , will guarantee progression into Wales higher education,
for all successful Chinese students.
The courses
aim to prepare Chinese students for study in Wales , enabling them to develop
their English language and study skills, as well as upgrading their academic
subject knowledge.
The Wales International Consortium, representing all higher education in Wales , is responsible for encouraging international students to come to Wales to study.
Virginia
West, the Director of the Consortium said “Students in China are aware of
the superb opportunities available in Wales and are enthusiastic about the
prospect of coming to study in Wales . All the students are committed to
working hard on these courses in China , in the knowledge that if they pass
the course, they will be guaranteed a place on a degree course in Wales
”.
Liu
Jie Shan, one of the Chinese students enrolling on the course in Guangzhou
said, “This is a great opportunity for me. I have dreamed about the chance
to study in the UK and I have heard wonderful things about Wales . I am
determined to work hard so that my family will be proud of me”.
The
one-year courses in China have been established by Chinese education providers
ELI Education and Golden Arrow Huamei and are recognised by the Wales International
Consortium. All three courses have well received by both the Chinese Government
and the Welsh Assembly Government.
The First Minister for Wales , Mr. Rhodri Morgan AM, will visit China this week and officially launch one of the education courses, based in Beijing . The First Minister will have the opportunity to meet Chinese ministers and talk with Chinese students enrolled on the course.
Virginia West remarked “We are absolutely delighted to receive government support for this initiative. Higher education in Wales has an excellent international reputation and is renowned for offering international students the chance to succeed. We are very pleased that our commitment to international students is recognised by the government authorities in both China and Wales .”
The Wales International Consortium plans to encourage more education programmes in China this year, allowing talented young Chinese students the chance to gain a place on a degree course in Wales .
