Wales at a Glance
Swansea
Wales’ energetic and exciting second city with a population of 230,000 (13,500 students) and a vibrant tourist city attracting hundreds of tourists each year. Swansea has all the facilities of a modern and commercial city with a difference - a magnificent coastline, unspoilt beaches and lofty mountains. The Gower Peninsula is a popular place for outdoor activities such as swimming, surfing, mountain-climbing, hang-gliding and walking. Swansea has the first 'UK Enterprise Zone' where over 1,000 enterprises covering almost every industry have set up their offices. Among them many global companies and organisations, for instance, BP Chemicals (one of the largest companies in Europe), Corus (one of the world's biggest steel companies), Ford Motor, Morriston Silicon, DVLA, Sony and Panasonic.
