Piush Roy (India), MA International Journalism
Piush Roy and Neil Kinnock at the Shine International Student Awards
After graduating with an MA in International Journalism, Piyush Roy returned to India to work for two leading newspapers, The Hindustan Times and The Indian Express, where he is currently special correspondent. Here, he specialises in features, analytical and editorial writing. He has also written for magazines on entertainment, covered India’s huge Bollywood film industry and published his first great novel, a life of Alexander the Great.

While at Cardiff, Piyush immersed himself in student life, working with film, writers’ and political Societies, and volunteering for Nightline. In 2004, he was selected as one of the 12 finalist Silver Award winners at the British Council UK International Student ‘Shine’ Awards, for writing movingly about one of his tutors, the late Geoff Mungham. Puish RoyGeoff passed away just ten weeks into the course but Piyush felt that his commitment to his students had a left a deep and lasting effect on all of them.

Piyush feels he owes a great deal to Cardiff. “It changed the way I look at things, the way I interpret things. It is a world class course and the curriculum is of universal relevance. Papers like the Express and Hindustan Times, which are very old and very respected, are very much aware of Cardiff University and this course”.

An avid follower of world cinema, adventure traveller and hobby tarot reader, Piyush currently lives and works in Mumbai.
