Swansea University
Qingyun Ma (China), Wales Representative for the Welsh Assembly Government in Chongqing, BA Business Studies from Swansea Metropolitan University and MBA from Swansea University
I had been longing for a MBA degree for years, for two reasons. Firstly, it is a pre-requisite to become a qualified professional manager in the contemporary business world, especially in an emerging dynamic economy like China, hence an MBA helps in obtaining better employment opportunities in the competitive job market in China. Secondly, it provides a chance to pause and reconsider a career track, after my many years of administrative experience in private and public organisations. The MBA course offered by School of Business and Economics, Swansea University is fairly intensive, comprehensive and challenging. It is not only an academic degree, but a professional one. There are two main purposes of the course, first to equip all the students with the essential, comprehensive knowledge and skills in the contemporary business world, such as managing markets, people, finance and information. The second is training students to develop certain traits to qualify for their future roles, such as, handling pressure, managing time in projects and work independently and as part of a team. The friendly and open-minded academic team has fostered a freethinking and learning atmosphere, and the respect for students' opinions definitely develops students' confidence. In short, the learning experience in Swansea University is a valuable and unforgettable one …Personally, the MBA degree in Swansea University was a turning point for my career. Before I finalised my management report, Welsh Assembly Government offered me the post as Wales Representative in Chongqing Southwest China, with the task of seeking out and strengthening the links between Wales and Chongqing, along various disciplines including trade and industry, education, agriculture, culture and environment. I feel that it is such a privilege to be able to work for both Wales and China. Also, I am aware that the post is going to be interesting and challenging. However, with the unconditional support from School of Business and Economics, Swansea University, I am confident that I shall be able to explore further the real business world.
